The decorative element "Birds on branches" is an asymmetrical pierced relief built upon the interweaving of floral shoots and bird figures forming a continuous frieze ornament. The composition is based on dynamic curvilinear axes of branches with detailed bark texture and rounded elements of fruits or buds, among which ornithological motifs are positioned in various angles: with spread wings, in a static stance, and in dynamic flight. The depiction of birds among fruit tree branches traces back to the traditional garden reliefs of ancient Persian Pasargadae gardens from the 6th century BC, symbolizing the Garden of Eden and the eternal renewal of nature, a motif later actively employed in European carved furniture of the early Renaissance.
