The foreground of the rectangular framed bas-relief with ornamental corners depicts two dogs among forest vegetation, raising their heads toward a rising bird. In the middle ground, against the background of trees and conifer branches, a capercaillie is shown taking off with spread wings and a characteristic fan-shaped tail. The background features a relief depiction of a forest thicket and clouds. During spring mating displays, the capercaillie's hearing is temporarily lost entirely, which is the origin of the bird's Russian name.
