In the foreground of the bas-relief, an anthropomorphic deity figure with a jackal's head holds a balance beam with scales containing a heart and a feather. The middle ground consists of a circular medallion with hieroglyphic inscriptions, serving as the compositional base for the central character. The background level of the relief is flat, and a rigid frame (baguette) is absent in the model design. In the ancient Egyptian Book of the Dead, the heart-weighing scene determined the afterlife fate of the soul by placing the heart on one scale and the feather of the goddess Maat on the other.
