Panel "Bridges of St. Petersburg" (Model 5496) STL

The bas-relief composition is built on linear perspective with a clear separation into planes. The foreground features a water surface with a rippled texture and massive supports of a drawbridge whose leaves are raised upwards at an angle. The middle ground is occupied by the silhouette of the Peter and Paul Cathedral with its dominant spire, while the background depicts a cloudy sky establishing the horizontal expanse; the entire scene is enclosed within a simple rectangular frame-baguette. Historically, the opening of bridges in St. Petersburg was initially performed not for the passage of ships, but to organize pedestrian crossings between islands during the navigation period before permanent bridges were built.
