The middle ground occupies the sea area with a passing sailing ship, a rocky shore with a lighthouse, and navigational posts with ships' bells framing the scene. The background consists of a mountain relief, a cloudy sky, and soaring birds, with the entire scene enclosed within a rectangular smooth frame with a profiled molding.
