The foreground of the vertical relief features the figure of Themis in classical attire with deep drapery folds, holding a sword in her right hand and scales in her left. Behind the figure of the goddess, symbolic attributes are placed: a globe is positioned at her feet on the left, and a stack of books with measuring instruments on the right. The composition is set against a smooth rectangular background without an enclosing frame. In ancient Greek mythology, the blindfold on Themis appeared relatively late, during the Renaissance; originally, the impartiality of the goddess was denoted by epithets rather than a literal visual attribute.
