Saint Dionysius of Glushitsa (1363–1437) was a prominent figure of the Russian Church, an iconographer, scribe, and the founder of several monasteries along the Glushitsa River in the Vologda region. The saint's life was dedicated to ascetic labor, spiritual guidance, and the establishment of monastic communities in the severe northern lands. As a talented master, he left a significant legacy in the development of 15th-century northern Russian icon painting. In iconography, he is traditionally depicted in monastic attire, with his right hand raised in blessing and holding a scroll symbolizing his spiritual teachings and monastic rule.
