Saint Anastasia the Great Martyr, known as the Deliverer from Captivity (Uzoreshitelnitsa), suffered for the Christian faith during the persecutions of Emperor Diocletian in the early 4th century. According to hagiography, she secretly visited imprisoned Christians, tending to their wounds, comforting them, and alleviating their suffering, which earned her the title symbolizing release from the bonds of sin and physical torment. Traditionally, the icon depicts the saint holding a cross in her right hand and a vessel of healing oil in her left. In the Orthodox tradition, the faithful pray before this image for deliverance from severe illnesses and spiritual sorrows, as well as for the comfort of prisoners and protection in legal trials.
