Holy Martyr Victor the Warrior suffered for the Christian faith in the 2nd century during the reign of Emperor Marcus Aurelius. As a Roman soldier, he refused to sacrifice to pagan gods, for which he endured severe torture and martyrdom. In the Orthodox tradition, images of warrior saints are revered as protectors of the faith and the embodiment of spiritual courage. Believers pray before the icon of Saint Victor for steadfastness in trials, protection from ill-wishers, strengthening of the spirit, as well as for healing from physical ailments and spiritual grief.
