Icon "Nicholas the Wonderworker" (Model 710) STL

Saint Nicholas, Archbishop of Myra, lived in the 4th century and is venerated throughout the Christian world as a great intercessor and miracle worker. The iconographic type depicting the saint in half-length, holding the Gospel in his left hand with his right hand raised in blessing, was established in Byzantine art during the Middle Ages. Traditionally, Christ and the Virgin Mary are depicted flanking him, presenting the Gospel and an omophorion in remembrance of the First Council of Nicaea. Believers turn to this image with prayers for protection from misfortune, safe travels, healing from illnesses, and the resolution of difficult life circumstances.
