"Icon of the Mother of God of Vladimir" (Model 537) STL

The Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God is one of the most revered and ancient wonderworking images in the Orthodox tradition, belonging to the Eleusa (Tenderness) iconographic type. According to tradition, this prototype was painted by Luke the Evangelist on a board of the table used by the Holy Family. The icon depicts the Virgin Mary tenderly pressing the Christ Child to her cheek, symbolizing both boundless maternal love and the foreshadowing of Christ's future Passion. Historically brought to Kievan Rus from Constantinople in the 12th century, the icon was later enshrined in the Dormition Cathedral of Vladimir. Believers pray before the Vladimir Icon for protection from adversities, the reconciliation of conflicting parties, and the healing of severe ailments.
