The presented composition unites three key images of Orthodox iconography: the Savior, the Mother of God, and Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker. The tradition of combining these images dates back to ancient diptychs, triptychs, and travel icons that became widespread in Russia during the 14th through 19th centuries. The central place is occupied by the image of Christ Pantokrator, to his right is Saint Nicholas, Bishop of Myra, revered as a swift helper and intercessor, and to his left is the Mother of God, the primary intercessor for humankind. The lower part of the composition features the traditional inscription «Save and Preserve», reflecting the prayerful appeal of believers to the Lord and the saints for protection from misfortunes, illnesses, and spiritual turmoil.
