The icon «Svyatoy Spas Nerukotvorny» (The Mandylion) originates from the ancient Christian tradition regarding the miraculous imprint of Jesus Christ's face on a cloth (sudarium) sent to King Abgar of Edessa. According to tradition, this is the first iconographic image of the Savior in history, serving as the archetype for all subsequent representations. In this relief composition, the Face of Christ is depicted against the traditional folded cloth with a cruciform halo, enclosed within an ornamented rectangular frame. Believers traditionally offer prayers before this image for healing from severe illnesses, particularly afflictions of the sight, as well as for home protection, spiritual insight, and the strengthening of faith.
