The icon «Unburnt Bush» is one of the most complex and symbolically rich images of the Mother of God in Orthodox art. The Mother of God with the Child is depicted against the background of a symbolic bush engulfed in flames but not burning, which dates back to the Old Testament prophecy seen by Moses. The iconography was formed on the basis of theological ideas about the immaculate conception and virginity of Mary. In the center of the composition, two rhombuses intersect, forming an eight-pointed star surrounded by archangels, evangelist symbols, and Old Testament prophets. Traditionally, prayers are offered before this image for protection from fires, natural disasters, lightning strikes, and for the protection of the home.
